QUESTAR RECEIVES APPROVAL FOR
PINEDALE DRILLING PROGRAM

SALT LAKE CITY — Questar Exploration and Production (QEP) has received approval from the Wyoming State Office of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to continue its drilling program in the Pinedale Anticline area of western Wyoming.

QEP, a subsidiary of Questar Corp. (NYSE:STR), has begun constructing four drilling pads as part of a planned 8-10 well program for year 2000. The company will utilize four rigs in the program.

The Wyoming BLM office on July 28 issued the Record of Decision (ROD) approving the Pinedale Anticline natural gas project under the Resource Protection Alternative, as modified. The ROD allows 700 producing well pads in the area, which encompasses approximately 197,000 acres between the town of Pinedale and the Jonah field, approximately 30 miles to the south.

QEP and affiliate Wexpro Co. have an approximate 60% working interest in 14,800 gross acres in the Mesa area of the Pinedale Anticline. The Questar subsidiaries have drilled two successful exploratory wells in the area with an average initial production rate of 11 million cubic feet of gas per day.

Questar is a $2.3 billion diversified natural gas company headquartered in Salt Lake City. Through subsidiaries, it engages in energy development and production; gas gathering and processing; wholesale gas, electricity and liquids trading; retail energy services; interstate gas transmission and storage; retail gas distribution; and information systems and technologies.
